The Best Way To Clean Your Windows in 4 Tips

Summer is upon us, and while British weather is known for its unpredictability – preparation is key. Clean windows can really make the difference to your home and with the accumulation of dirt, hand prints, grime and more; this is the perfect time to give your windows a good spring clean.

To help with your window cleaning, we have put together 6 simple tips to get the best shine.

1. Choose a cloudy day

The sun dries the cleaning products too quickly, and sometimes before you even get the chance to wipe it off. Leaving marks that we would rather avoid. That is why cloudy days are the best for washing windows rather than sunny days. However, If the weather won’t cooperate, start on the shady side of the house.

2. Prepare your windows

Ever had the problem of dirt from the window frame mixing with your cleaning products and causing a muddy solution all over your windows. This is because you need to sweep dirt from the window frame with a brush.

Key to preparation is removing any curtains, blinds or window screens before you begin your cleaning process.

3. Pick the right equipment

Many choose the rubber squeegee as a tool of choice for its ease of use. However, it is usually recommended for the pros and can cause you more headache than needed. We recommend using two microfibre cloths: one to clean and another to wipe off the remaining residues. Microfibre cloths are perfect for cleaning windows, because they do not leave marks unlike rags.

It is always a good idea to use window cleaning specialists products. You can usually find them in the cleaning products aisle or the garden tools aisle in shops.

However, if this is a spur of the moment situation, we recommend – white vinegar. For windows, white vinegar is very effective against stubborn dirt, simply mix 250 ml of vinegar with 250 ml of hot water and you’re ready to go.

4. It’s all about the details

If you are having trouble with persistent stains then we recommend this simple home solution – Mix 2 cups of water with a quarter cup of dishwashing liquid and a quarter cup of rubbing alcohol, then scrub with a soft cloth.

For any traces left on your windows, we have an old-fashioned trick – simple use crumpled newspaper.  Just moisten it a little and rub.
